A few of you have emailed me over the last couple of weeks asking whether or not it's true that I'm involved in the forthcoming Tom Yum Goong 2 (The Protector 2) movie. Some of you saw some talk on Facebook and others saw my name mentioned on a Muay Thai site. And so I thought I post on this and tell you what I can about my involvement.
The reason I have chosen not to write about this to date is because the set has a strict code of conduct about leaking information. I also don't know what parts will be used and what will be cut, and therefore I don't want to say I will be featured a lot as I don't know what will be edited.
What I can tell you is that I am playing a support role to one of the lead actors Mum Jokmuk (Pee Mum). So far I have shot a number of scenes and done a few lines here and there. We are still filming and have been for some months.
My involvement in the movie came about as a result of my martial arts experience, although I do not feature in a fighting role. I'd been approached a number of times to cast for other roles in Bangkok, but had never wanted to get involved in a life of casting, shortlisting and waiting around on agents, etc. Besides, I have my own business to take care of. Anyway, long story short, I guy I trained Wing Chun with took some action shots of me some time ago and they found their way to the director of the movie, who then got in touch and cast me for the role.
The movie will be in 3D and released in 30 countries I believe. It will take on the name The Protector 2 in the US, and Warrior King 2 in the UK (that's an assumption based on the first film).
It's been a wonderful experience and a privilege to work with the likes of Tony Ja, Jeeja, and Mum Jokmuk. I've also met some other great people too, including one of Thailand's/SE Asia's leading actor/models Tom Stanton – who has become a good friend, and Co-director Adrian Bowden, who has recently married Jeeja Yanin after they fell in love on the set.
Some people work so hard for many years to get a break doing something like this, and as such I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity. What from here I don't know. I have enjoyed the challenge but I'm not chasing anything else. If the right door opens, sounding fun and not stressful, I'll do it.
I will blog more on this when I can release more details >> probably on the release date, which will be early 2013 I should imagine.
